Well, it was sure a surprise to have you get in touch! The offer still stands. I'd like to hear what you've been up to. My extended family was very active in AA, NA, and CODA, and I've learned a lot about the various support groups since my first intro through you.

Nice to see you comment on the site...Now you can see a bit of what I've been up to as well. :)

It is impossible to comment on this video, and correct all of the untruths because every single statement is blatantly wrong, and an essay could be formulated to correct each and every statement.

It is an excellent demonstration of what can happen if ones only source of reference material is mainstream media. The subject of the video clearly has no understanding of Christianity, and an entirely uneducated view of world history. I will gladly provide some references pertaining to the Crusades, Inquisition, etc that are written from a pure historical perspective, yet prove your statements categorically incorrect.

The Catholic church founded all that is good in Western society, our legal system and the concept of human rights, the education system and university system. It was also the greatest if not sole supporter of science throughout the so-called dark ages, and the list goes on and on. Again, a lifetime of research and study of the history of the Western world would be required to truly understand these things, I can provide references as requested.

I guess it is easy to choose a few sentences out of context, it is too much work to actually read and understand the history of Western Civilization, or any other books- the Bible included- for that matter.

Everyone that has taken the time to read this much, please educate yourselves, if your only source of information is mainstream media the result is this kind of senseless rambling.

And you would. The rights of women don't factor into it for you. "Men can take advantage of her by having consentual sex without any responsibility." You are putting a man's rights ahead of a woman's. That is sexist. I am so glad in Canada abortion is legal. At least a woman can decide what to do with her body, because the religious man in this scenario doesn't seem to have any accountability.

Talk about in-equality. Men are not left responsible if 'they' get a woman pregnant out of wedlock or if she gets pregnant, but the woman is? If the man doesn't want the responsibility coming from having un-protected sex, he shouldn't have sex in the first place. Within a marriage or not. How nice for religious men to be able to have unprotected sex and not be responsible for all outcomes. Seeing that women carry the fetus, it is their decision, not that of a religious group, to decide on the outcome.

Onto your comments about abortion. No one is killing babies. Children are children once they are born. Period. It is vile to state that abortion is murder. God didn't make the fetus. A sperm and egg did. I don't care what a religious leader or ancient text tells me. Abortion is a medical procedure. The fetus is not a baby.

I've read plenty of quotes from the bible that seem to condone rape and murder. Do you just ignore them? Do you try to justify them by being quoted out of context? How are you able to justify the mistreatment of women by taking away their right to choose? I could head out and find plenty of quotes that seem to suggest stoning, slavery, rape, and murder are part of the bible...

This statement has nothing to do with rape. This is an example of misquoting/mistranslating/twisting the words of one sentence out of context of the entire homily.

He said ... 'a woman who has an abortion gives a man absolute licence to abuse her body without restrictions because she has committed a sin as if she had a right to do so '

Although I can see in the english translation how you could sort of misunderstand it the way that it has been, he is saying that if a woman aborts her babies, as a form of contraception, than men can take advantage of her by having consentual sex without any responsibility.

This comes from two teachings of the Catholic Church, which you may not agree with. 1. That sex is reserved for the sacrament of marriage.

2. That artificial forms of contraception remove the possibility of procreation, and are contradictory to God's plan.

3. Abortion is murder of a human being.

You may not agree with these Catholic teachings, but they hold equally true for men and women.

It is absurd to even imply that the Catholic church teaches it is O.K. to rape anyone, please read the Catechism of the Catholic faith and do your research before making such obscene claims.

The only human rights I see violated here are those of the unborn children who are powerless against those who are taking their lives.

I don't see an issue with sex ed being incorporated into a longer piece of the curriculum, but I doubt they are creating a daily lesson like math, or english. I would then ask, what is the specific part of the sex ed curriculum that is the issue here?

I agree with you that parents need to be informed and dates and times should not be withheld from parents. That is a separate issue that needs to be addressed. The same thing applies with parents that wish to know more about what is being taught in biology. The subject will still need to be taught to all the students, but parents that wish to keep their kids out of that classroom during discussions around evolution, should be able to make that decision. There would be scholastic consequences for not learning the material, but the parent should still be informed.
