Many people play video games for hours a day, and get hooked in massively multiplayer worlds. Sometimes these worlds take on a life of their own… I have dabbled in a few 1st person shooters(Serious Sam 2 ruled), and ran the gamut of the Baldur’s Gate Series in the RPG genre. I got through NeverWinter Nights though I bored of it near the end, and recently enjoyed playing Prey. But really, not too many games excite me. Maybe I am just at a stage of my life where I have more important things to do, like spend time with my family, go out for a good mountain bike ride, work on this site, etc…The graphics in new games really are amazing, and now you can even play awesome 1st person shooters in web browsers! Games have come a long way from my first Commodore 64, with Jumpman, and Beachhead. But I have to confess, that I have been following a game for a couple of years, and it hasn’t even been released yet!! It is basically the game of evolution. If you haven’t heard of it, it is called Spore.
It mixes my love of evolution, science, and computer geekery. I am probably setting myself up for a big disappointment, but I am dying to play this game. I may have to fain sickness when it gets released this fall, to get the hours in I will need to experience the game in its entirety.
Here is a short video on the science of Spore, and after, a link to a site of a big Spore fan, with quite a few videos to watch!
