I will start out by saying that I am just plain confused about the state of the gun culture in the USA. Just last month the US Supreme Court voted 5-4 saying that gun ownership is a right of it’s citizens.
Then, in Milwaukee, some guy gets arrested for shooting his lawnmower! WTF??? It is OK to hide in a tree in perfect camouflage for hours and shoot an unsuspecting deer, but your Honda gas mower is off limits? It is also apparently OK to use a gun to defend yourself down in America and kill a human. But shooting the weedwacker, BBQ, etc… is no good?
Maybe my confusion is due to the nature of where I live. In Canada. We are not a big gun nation. In fact, other than the police officers on the beat, and parades with old war veterans, I have never even seen a gun in the flesh. I have never even held one. In truth, I kind of think of guns as unnecessary, and don’t think regular citizens should be allowed to own them. They scare the hell out of me. Hunters that use the entire animal should be allowed a temporary permit, but they would have to hand them in once the trip was over. No trophy hunting. Call me a pacifist, but why do we need guns? Let me know what you think. I especially would love to hear from my neighbours to the south. I know you are out there, as my stats show quite a few Americans checking out the site!
