I love science. I don’t write about it much anymore. I tended to ramble on about evolution, and keeping religion out of the classroom. I will leave detailed science articles to people that actually know what they are talking about. haha.

One thing that I find so interesting is the placebo effect. Why? Placebos show the power of the mind in making someone feel better. Does that mean that real medicine is not effective? No, it’s just that the patient needs to be sold that the pill, shot, operation will help.

Maybe that’s how homeopathic medicine actually works? lol

Here is a cool video about the placebo effect, and how it’s effects are measured, and how there are geographic differences with how well it works. I quote Bill Nye the Science Guy when I say, “Cool Science”…

Interesting explanation of the placebo effect.

  1. I saw a recent news story about how the placebo effect works even when the people in the study were told they were getting a placebo. The researchers theorized that just taking an active role in one’s care helped improve experience of symptoms. I was feeling more pessimistic, and theorized that maybe a lot of people don’t know what “placebo” means. 😉

  2. That is really neat!
I’m with you, they probably thought placebo had something to do with improved libido…That would make anybody feel better! 🙂
