Photo of the Day – Noah’s Ark in a Public Park. WTF?

This last week, we went to Vancouver to visit family and take a break from our busy life. On Friday I had some time alone with my 1 year old, so I took him to Central Park in Burnaby. We got to the play park and he had a great time! One thing stood out however as odd…

The story of Noah’s Ark was integrated into the playground!

Maybe it’s where I live, but seeing Christian ‘marketing’ in a publicly funded park sets me off. Vancouver is a fairly culturally diverse place, where maybe beliefs are held, not just the Christian one. I’m not for any one group trying to tell their god story in a public kid’s park. It’s a place to play, not teach or preach about gods in the sky.

It seems sleazy to me that it was put in an area where kids play. The apparatus was build for 5-12 year olds. In other words, the written story was meant to be read by children.

I won’t even get into how ridiculous Noah’s Ark is. It simply didn’t happen. It’s a fairy tale…I’ll leave it at that.

What are your thoughts about this being in a kid’s playground?

Leave me a comment. I’d love to hear it!

  1. In my honest opinion, it’s absolutely ridiculous for a publicly funded resource to have any kind of religious message – especially in a multicultural society. 100% in agreement with you.
