For those of you not familiar with Zombie Jesus Day, it is a tongue in cheek merger of Jesus supposedly rising from the dead(um, ya people believe this stuff…), and the hilarious Zombie movement taking over the planet. OK, maybe not taking over the planet, but I did see a bunch of Zombies at the mall and got quite a kick out of it.
For those not so easily offended, below is the link to the site. Go out and have some fun with it!
Well, today is the final day of the 2011 Postaday Challenge! I made it… 🙂
Here are the stats for this last year.
My site traffic increased by 200%! I got almost 50,000 unique visitors and the trend for the last 3 months shows almost 5500 visitors/month currently! Though I never expect my site to be big, I sure like seeing constant visitors and regular comment. Thank you for coming back over and over again and being brave enough to leave comments!
One of the points of the Postaday challenge was to obviously post every day. One thing that I didn’t think of was simply making it to 365 posts. I looked back and I completed 374 posts in 2011. Since starting to blog I have completed 793 blog posts. Doing the math, that means that this year alone I’ve done 47% of all my blogging, and I started in 2007!
If I look at my visitors, I’ve had 71% of my all time traffic to the site in 2011 too. Meaning, the more I post, the more visitors the site will get! Who knew? lol.
Today I read about an exciting new on-line project that will automate so many of our files and photos with Dropbox called Dropbox Automator.
For those of you that have used the Mac and messed around with OSX Automator, it sounds very much like how Dropbox Automator will work.
I have quite a lot of storage capacity with Dropbox, and would just love the ability to take a picture with your smartphone, or save a file, and have it automate the backup to Dropbox.
I currently have an automated backup plan with Evernote for every email I get that has an attachment. So currently if I wish to have an online backup of something, I send it via email to my Gmail account and it stores a copy of the attachment to Gmail, and then forwards it to Evernote. It is really slick, but the issue is that Evernote has upload limits unless you upgrade to the Pro account.
I can’t imagine my document and smartphone image backup exceding my current capacity for quite some time. So once Dropbox Automator irons out the kinks, I’m going to start organizing my Dropbox again and use the service.
Here is a bit more about the service…
Thirty-six hours ago, the recently founded software development firm Wappwolf launched Dropbox Automator, which is sort of like an IFTTT for Dropbox. IFTTT, for those of you not up to speed on the latest Internet trends (where have you been?!), is a pretty amazing online tool that automates tasks to trigger when a particular action has occurred. For example: when my Facebook profile picture changes, update my Twitter profile pic too; email me when Amazon posts its free Android app of the day; text me when a get a new email; etc.
I only have 2 more days of the Postaday2011 challenge! There is no doubt in my mind that I have enjoyed this experience of forcing myself to blog far more than I have ever before. And, my traffic numbers show it was a success too! I’ll post my final results at the beginning of 2012.
I have been mulling over whether I will continue to post everyday next year, and have decided that I will be scaling my posts back ever so slightly.
I have a few reasons for this.
The first being that at the end of March, we are expecting a new baby! Having been through the new baby experience before, I don’t think I’ll be coherent for a couple of months! I’ll blog through out this time, but to post every day may prove to be too much.
The second reason(excuse) is that we are moving at the same time as the baby is due! Double crap!
And lastly, I have found that there are times during the week that I have almost nothing to say on the site. It’s most likely from lack of sleep and my brain simply turning off, but why post nothing?
I thought maybe I’d sign up for a Postaweek2012 challenge, if there is one. I could easily do that and overachieve! Don’t think that if I do sign up for a post a week, that I’ll only do that. I expect that I will continue to blog more often than that!
For those of you that had hoped that the Postaday2011 challenge would break me, and I’d just shut up and go away…too bad! lol
I stumbled upon an article today about how some bloggers are getting their profiles pulled from Google+ over showing their middle fingers! Really?
I hate censorship. I really do. I truly believe that education is the answer to cure racism, bigotry, gay bashing, etc…You breed more problems by banning images and conversation. Having said that, what the hell is wrong with flipping the bird? Nothing.
Techcrunch is making the case that people should first change their profile pics to a middle finger gesture. It was easy for me to do, as you may well be aware, I am proud to show off my beautiful bride in my header image. So I changed my Google+ profile too!
What do you think about social media companies banning and censoring content on their own services? There has been huge revolts on Facebook for banning breastfeeding pics. Who makes them the social and moral police?
Here is the article I came across. Click through at the bottom to read more about the revolt…
This blogger we all know got a pic of himself flipping off a camera removed from Google+ yesterday, and another blogger blogged about it, and then the original blogger blogged about that blogger. Here’s why the image removal was significant, via BoingBoing’s Rob Beschizza.
Today I got to go on my annual Christmas ride! It is one of my favourite rides of the year. Being on the west coast of Canada, I and all the other mountain bikers, can ride pretty much year round! So to ride on Christmas almost every year for the last 15 to 20 years has become one of my favourite traditions.
This year on Christmas day I had quite a busy morning, and forgot to dry my riding gear. By the time it was done in the dryer, I didn’t have much time to complete a worthy ride, so I opted instead for a nap.
I did this knowing that I still had Boxing Day on the 26th to complete my ride. And, man was I ever happy I did. You see, if I had gone yesterday, I would have done the ride alone and I would have rushed the ride and stuck to the trails I know.
But instead, today I was able to bring my riding partner Jeremy. For anyone keeping score, he is also my very talented brewmaster that did all the beer for our wedding!
He had gone out for a ride recently and had discovered the beginnings of some NEW trails in the area we frequent. Today we went of explored them more! Finding new trails is much like a Christmas present for mountain bikers! Especially ones that were built by mountain bikers! They add all the little touches that are needed to make the trail unique and one of a kind.
After a good hour and a half ride on brand new trails, we went back to Jeremy’s place and had a toast to another great year of riding, and did it with a glass of his yummy beer!
A great annual ride, and this year’s was one of the best!
